Bulacan shines with sustainability with Tanglawan’s Festival

At the mention of “sustainability”, environmental awareness and conservation comes to mind. While these concepts are well and good, the City of San Jose Del Monte (CSJDM) believes that another ingredient is needed to achieve complete sustainability: a sense of community fostered through cooperation.

Last year, CSJDM launched the Tanglawan Festival. The festival’s name, which is derived from the root word “ilaw” or light, celebrates the genuine cheerfulness of the residents as they work together towards becoming a “Sustainable City”. Now on its second year, the message is no different, but it wil be delivered with more festive and meaningful activities throughout the eight-day festival.

The festivities start off on September 3, 2017 with a Mass in honor of the Lady of Lourdes, a famous religious icon in the city. It will then be capped off by an Animation Light Show and a performance by Parokya ni Edgar on September 10, 2017. In between, there will be various activites like livelihood workshops, performances, cooking demos, and many others.

Also, on September 8, 2017, the city will attempt to break the Guiness record for the World’s Largest Lantern Parade, which is expected to be a glowing spectacle of lights and creativity. Singapore currently holds said record with a total of 10,568 participants.

“Throught the [Tanglawan Festival’s] activities we hope to enrich the lives of our city’s residents and to foster a culture of cooperation,” said Hon. Florida “Rida” P. Robes, District Representative of CSJDM.

“It’s also an opportunity for us to get together and show that San Joseño’s can do great things, like become a sustainable and cheerful city, if we do it together,” she added.

The Tanglawan Festival will be held in many different venues in the city on September 3, 2017 unitl September 10, 2017. More information on the Tanglawan Festival and its activities are available on the CSJDM Official Website (http://csjdm.gov.ph).

Encouraging development through Goldilock’s tested livelihood initiatives

by E. Lorete / http://inslashout.wordpress.com /http://inslashout.blog.com

Goldilock is helping people, communities through tested livelihood programs. It is helping, again communities, help themselves develop into a stable source of income people can learn, share and earn from in the long run. Inslashout shares this fine example Goldilocks is leading with no less former DENR Secretary Gina Roy Lopez.

While Lobo, Batangas has earned a reputation as a hotbed for mining, the municipality is likewise home to a rich marine sanctuary. Unfortunately, excessive mining has threatened this ecology, and efforts have been made to reduce Lobos dependence on the income from mines.
Goldilocks Foundation, in partnership with ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc.s (ALKFIs) Bantay Kalikasan and Nutrition Center of the Philippines, took part in this endeavor by donating a fully-functional Kabuhayan Bakery located in Masaguitsit-Banalo National High School.
In order to create a ripple effect of livelihood opportunities, the bakery will be managed by the locals, who were given the appropriate training to make a variety of breads and simple pastries. These products can then be sold either on a retail or wholesale basis.
My dream is to eradicate poverty in Lobo, while keeping the environment and Lobos natural resources as healthy as possible, noted ALKFI Managing Director Gina Lopez. I hope that the teachers will teach their students how to love one another and also Mother Nature. Let us be responsible and commit to being earth warriors, she added.
On the part of Goldilocks, the countrys number one bakeshop intends to make the Kabuhayan Bakeshop an integral part of its Foundations advocacy. This is the first Kabuhayan Bakery that we launched, but it certainly wont be the last. We hope to replicate this model in a number of key locations, and expand this program in the coming years, said Cherry Caluya, Marketing Director of Goldilocks.
Other sponsors include Honda Motors Philippines, who donated a motorcycle to help the community in delivering bread all around the city, San Miguel Mills, and the Local Government Unit led by Lobo Municipal Mayor, Atty. Gaudioso Manalo.

Canon hits 80 years, joins digital market launching red consumer to merchant phone application

by Edsel Lorete/ http://inslashout.wordpress.com / http://inslashout.blog.com

Get closer with Canon! Yes, the famed brand known for its exquisite professional DSLRs and mainstream cameras, industrial to office printers is 80 years old. Canon maintains rank among the preferred brand when it comes to professional DSLR cameras. Leading that demand for 2017 is Canon EOS 6D Mark ll, which is equipped with a grand 26.3 megapixels full-frame CMOS censor, the most powerful in its chip processing class Canon manufactures in-house, capturing the most outstanding publication glossy images with superior details and color reproduction defined by Canon’s telephoto lense technology. The Digic 7 processor, the latest engine detailed for professional Canon DSLRs, significantly improves detection and camera’s tracking performance, seeding down noise reductions when camera is subjected to high sensitivity shooting for things like a runway fashion show, concert or a press conference held in places with unstable lighting conditions. The Digic 7 reliably gives nothing but clean, crisp and stunning glossy images. It comes with ISO 100 – 40,000 (and this is wildly expandable to 102400). Delivering nothing but high resolutions for unexpected indoor or outdoor shooting challenges. While there are a handful product choices on hand Canon made it convenient reaching out between consumers and dealers launching a designated application called the Canon Red App. Launched in time for Canon’s 80 Years anniversar, the consumer designed business application can be downloaded either from your Android or Apple devices free of charges. Once downloaded, and it takes a very small amount of phone space to keep this app actively going, is practical having since it directly pitched consumer taking up to about 150 Canon merchant/ dealers in one platform. “Canon is reaching out to Canon consumers in the Philippines with this app (Canon Red App). It is one of many innovations that allow brand to work with consumers who have purchased Canon products. It puts then in touch with brand retailers, making it more efficient dealing with customer concerns,” said Canon Philippines’ newly installed Philippine CEO Mr. Kazuhiro Ozawa. What is best about app is that you can reach a specific app listed from our phone, before you even make a purchase. It lets you get around the hassle of braving street traffic just to get to a tech mall offering Canon products. The Canon Red App is easy to use. You need to download app, which takes less than two minutes on your Android or Apple devices, then wait til it auto activates on your terms. Once that is settled the app, and it is literally screen clad a catalogue that is Canon red, you have to settle with a one time registration before using app. It will ask for details about you like your email, contact numbers and the rest will hook you to dealers efficiently. I say that with interest since app lets register as well your purchased Canon products. It is done by simply scanning QR code from sticker or you just fill in manually details, take photo of product purchase receipt to add item or to register another Canon product you happen to have. Red Canon App lets you rate store where ou purchased either your camera, printer or camera accessories for your DSLRS, and then you can get points from active registration that allows you to win cool consumer rewards. You can also find an authorized reseller in this particular app, making it easy getting around sales from stores found in malls. App, for those who are first time users of Canon Red app, lets you check whether the Canon item you brought is legitimate, and you can also get extended warranty for it. Registration lets you earn points you can eventually echange for cool gift items. “Canon is working strong, building relationships with Canon consumers in the Philippines. We continue to grow, become more productive with new and exciting Canon products coming your way in the future,” said Mr. Ozawa.

The Gift of Brightness Advocacy Program of Epson Philippines, which was launched in December 2013, aims to equip deserving schools and students who lack technology resources to support the faculty and to help students in their school requirements. Each of the beneficiary schools received Epson printers, projectors, document camera and other Epson products and supplies.

We were truly inspired by the stories we received from them, motivating us to help more schools under this program, “says Ms. Donna V. Ferro, Head of Marketing Communications and PR, Epson Philippines.
Epson Philippines has just finished awarding a new set of 15 schools last March 2017, bringing the current total of GoB beneficiaries to 45 schools, with another batch for selection within this year.

“We are focusing on selecting schools from areas that have yet to receive a similar donation, and we are working with partners from both the private and government sectors to help us complete this latest batch. One success story worth telling

All great stories, especially those that pertain to Filipino achievers, should be highlighted so other people can emulate their success. Inslashout supports achievers, and we want other people to follow what they have started. Here is one story to tell, and it is one worth the tall tale for young achievers  in the making.

At the start of July 2017 The British School Manila student, Liezl Bitas, proudly received her International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 45 points, the top mark that can be received by a Diploma student and the culmination of two years’ hard work and study. Of the 159,400 students who completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme across the world in 2017, Liezl was one of only 218 to receive a perfect score of 45 points, a fantastic achievement.

Liezl, a proud Filipino, joined the British School Manila in August 2015, with her intellect, passion and energy, along with high levels of humility and self-reflection she was perfectly balanced and certainly ready for the rigors of the IB Diploma. As she embarked on the two year IB programme, she immediately earned the respect of teachers and students, with her passion for learning and her ability across all subjects, particularly shining when finding opportunities to merge her academic abilities with her love of film.

Liezl is a storyteller, a student with a unique gift of words and the ability to create spellbinding narratives and engaging film work. It was no surprise that Liezl chose to apply to study Film at University; her work and ideas deserve to be seen by a wider audience and she is determined to both learn her craft and develop her own voice and we look forward to watching her evolve over the coming years. ‘Best Director’ sometime in the future?

Despite receiving an impressive array of offers from US Universities, Liezl has chosen to continue her studies at the College of Saint Benilde in the Philippines. She has a passion for giving her own country and culture a voice, although she one day dreams of being able to study overseas where she can gain a greater perspective of her own place within the wider world, an experience she believes will enhance her ability as a Pinoy storyteller.

Liezl Bitas is a name to be watched, a Philippine talent to be nurtured and developed.

The British School Manila (BSM) is a highly regarded co-educational British international school established in 1976. The School is proud to uphold the high standard of the British education system and we take full advantage of our multi-cultural setting. We are accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and also a member of The Federation of British International Schools in Southeast Asia and East Asia (FOBISSEA) and The Independent Association of Prep School (IAPS).

At present 900+ students aged 3-18 are on BSM’s roll and 41 nationalities are represented. British children make up 28%, Filipino 22%, Australians 10%, Canada 10%, and American 7% of the total population.

Laughter brings the action thrill up pairing Ryan Reynolds and Samuel Jackson

Film Review: Assasin’s Bodyguard aka The Hitman’s Bodyguard (Action/ Comedy)
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Samuel Jackson, Gary Oldman, Elodie Yung and Selma Hayek

Director: Patrick Hughes
Laughter brings the action thrill

Ryan Reynolds could not have picked a better to do a solid action movie opposite Samuel Jackson. Both are character players, and both babble like it was the last thing worth trailing on planet earth. But there is more to this babbling affair, something Jackson and Reynolds blends fairly well for a fun filled action packed comedy set away from the Hollywood glare of New York, Los Angeles or Chicago. Set entirely in Europe, and it is flashing seeing an entirely American action storyline make noise in the middle of The Hague, Switzerland. And who could have played the better villain half than Dracula man himself Gary Oldman. Never mind the plotting. It is completely predictable, but fast pacing enough to feed up the viewing thrill right to the last bullet trailing for a falling kill. Assasin’s Bodyguard is a cheesy title, and reading through those lines, I must admit, made me re-think whether if there is anything redeeming about a Samuel Jackson and Ryan Reynolds action movie. It is a movie, but a smashing one neatly tucked for a long wild goose chase across the European content. Denmark, which was one of the setting’s cornering plotting, was breathtaking panning before a highway car crash that would make James Bond frown with spicing envy. Reynold plays his character babbling self, he gets it from his equally babbling father Burt Reynolds. Burt, in my opinion, is funnier than his only begotten movie star son Ryan. I am not complaining, and since Ryan is pretty much appealing in comedy mode, niy I also could not help but compare the two from each other – and Ryan pitted against Jackson’s loud mouthed spectacle, It is not a bad thing, not really, not when characters find screen chemistry even if the punchline drops to silly classic TV purging. Assasin’s Bodyguard, cutting to the punchline’s very chessy chase, is taskingly character driven. It is a classic formula that raises the bar for early action type actors like Roger Moore and Tony Curtis. Moore did 007, but as a team Curtis and Roger was a tandem of rating sorts on British spy TV. It goes on with Reynolds and Jackson’s uncanny billing, and it tops with more three hours of action thrill that hits you from the belly button. It can be prickly fun putting the highway chase on these two loudly babbling characters, but that seems to be what factors more when you get to Assasin’s Bodyguard in its full length form. It is one of the longest trailing action thriller ever prouced in a European setting. It is equally fast paced as G.I Joe but the storytelling part keeps track with action pacing – making it more fun and relaxing watching two killers mix match their brooding sentiments over their layering body bag kills. Assasin’s Bodyguard offer a grand bird’s eyeview of scenic Europe, captured in stunning color it makes you feel like you are part of a foot tour. Selma Hayek’s romantic entanglement with Jackson offer funny moments, leaving Reynolds doing much of his sizzlingly funny babbling X-Men monologues. Assasin’s Bodyguard is a fun weekend date movie, and it does bring on smiles after a three hour affair with mayhem, which is why it is a must see film only on the big screen.

Bigger, faster and safer Samsung Galaxy Note 8!

In Focus: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (Smartphone /Phablet)

by E Lorete / http://inslashout.wordpress.com / http://inslashout.blog.com

Samsung’s Galaxy Note series is out to win hearts, and you can count on a safer in-house built battery for lengthier usage. I am talking about the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 which is making heads turn, a good start after last year’s disastrous battery fiasco, and after Samsung mobile reportedly overtook Apple in terms of sales a month back. But what can we really expect from the phablet size, definitely lengthy Note 8? Well, you can expect to see the S Pen making a swift return in the smartphone wireless market. It is not a bad thing, and since much of pen’s functionality is geared towards faster control, teasing out user’s artsy side with Note 8’s improving digital functionality. For one, and you will notice this once booted, you can now scribble notes on digital pie chart like you would a pen to a notepad. No, it does not have ink to write…but you can damn save notes written while on the publication run. Journalist will love this option, allowing you to write, if you are keen towards details, a decent news feature with S-Pen. Screen size increases to 6.3 inches, which is more cinematic with phone’s mold round edges – giving the Note 8 that infinity feel while watching or shooting HD branding images and 4K videos. While I find it odd taking an increasingly longer phablet on my pant’s pocket Samsung toned down Note 8’s curving side form, providing better hand grip when making phone calls, shooting videos with one hand multitasking screen. It makes it easy screen writing with S Pen, like you are actually jotting notes from a live press conference. The digital S Pen, well, there is not much improvement to what we have previously seen in the S8 / S8+ that let you do notes even while device is turned off. Adding sensation, and this is expected of a Note device, is Samsung’s new and improved voice assistant “Bixby”, which was first introduced in March 2017. Taking the engine specs further, and this is important it pretty much will tell you whether this Note 8 can run without digital glitches when heavily multitasking, details with two processor choices the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895. The first will be released for US market while latter for the rest, which is probably what the Philippine market will get. Either processor is detailed for heavy multitasking, inlcuding running two apps popping on your screen for attention. It is one of the highlights of the Note 8, but appreciation of these changing fetures depends on how it will benefit the way you manage programs. Internal storage varies since the US intended Note 8 is reportedly expected to lord with standard 6GB RAM, default 64GB storage. Outside, and that again should include the Philipines, memory immensely expands from 128GB to 256GB. That is plenty of storage to run a mobile data center, and Samsung decently made these features expandable. Made for outdoor photography in mind the Note 8 is water and dust resistant (IP68). Processing functionalities leans on latest Android Nougat 7.1.1 operating software. It is what ensures smooth app deployment while randomly checking your e-mail, streaming or doing video conferencing. But the biggest feature upgrade details with Note 8’s twin 12-megapixel back cameras. It details with a mean telephoto feature for the best lanscape photography, inlcuding wide camera angle features. It is the closest DSLR features ever detailed for a phablet with a 6.3 screen aspect ratio size. Take note twin camera, both with 4K and Full HD features, can shoot pictures simultaneously with dual capture feature with saving option. Chargeable power details with a decent 3,300mAh rechargeable battery for lengthier multitasking usage.

Here is the rest of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8’s technical specifications:
